The combined results of these four parts of the test form the overall IELTS band score.

Paper-based IELTS

The IELTS band score is unique due to its international recognition and understanding. A unique 9-band scoring system is consistent for measuring performance, regardless of when or where the test is conducted. All parts of the test as well as overall band scores are reported in whole and half bands, with each band corresponding to a level of proficiency in the English language, e.g. 5.5, 7.0, 8.0, and 8.5.

A half band score is an indication of strong performance at a particular band level. For example, an overall band score of 7.5 translates into strong performance within the band 7 levels.
